I am a PhD student under the supervision of Sethu Vijayakumar and Peggy Series. Before coming to Edinburgh I studied Cognitive Science, at the University of Osnabruck, Germany, where I was supervised by Peter Konig. I also worked at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics under the the supervision of Patrick van der Smagt on an artificial skin for a robotic hand. I am funded by the EPSRC and MRC under the Neuroinformatics DTC scheme.

My current work in collaboration with Roland Johansson focuses on tactile processing in both humans and robots. Using microneurographical data recorded from the human median nerve I try to determine how tactile information is encoded in the spike trains of tactile afferents. To this end, I use methods from information theory and machine learning.

In a related project together with Jo-Anne Ting, I am using a robotic hand equipped with touch sensors to examine how robotic systems can maximize incoming information in the context of active learning.
